I agree that too many ads can distract from the content of the site but more important is the placement of the ads you do have. If I can make a friendly suggestion, you might want to consider relocating the ad at the top of your post. I think most readers want to see the content of a post before they see an ad. Personally I would preferred to have not seen the ad till later in the post. Just a constructive suggestion. Nice list of things to watch out for when blogging.
